The Carrier Course
A generative workshop on submitting for publication
About The Carrier Course
Online over Zoom.
Do you have a short story, essay, or a few poems (perhaps from a previous workshop!) that you’re ready to publish but you have no idea where to begin? In this three week crash course in submitting your original creative writing for publication, Sammi has crammed everything she’s learned from 13 years of publishing from print publications like The Sun, online outlets like [PANK] and Hobart, news outlets like Slate and HuffPost, and even in books like an upcoming anthology from Fulcrum Publishing.
You’ll learn the ins and outs of submission calls, submitting to literary journals, pitching larger outlets, finding the right publications for your work, navigating submissions managers, selling yourself, and why the heck submitting work matters anyway. Like all Fledgling courses, this one will also be generative. Through in class writing time, you’ll end the course having created a Submittable profile, written a cover letter, an author’s bio, a pitch, and a submission plan. Together in our final session, we’ll send our work off into the world.
